JON FERGUSON, CFA, PARTNER
Jon
Ferguson is a managing partner of FIC Capital, Inc. Jon has served
as President and Chief Investment Officer of FIC Capital (formerly
Ferguson Investment Consultants, Inc.) since 2002, spearheading
equity and fixed income research, setting investment and portfolio
strategy, and overseeing client relationships and business
development.
Prior to joining FIC, Jon worked at Merrill Lynch
Investment Managers, where he was responsible for identifying,
evaluating, and recommending equity investments across multiple
industry sectors for Merrill’s Small Cap Growth mutual fund. Prior
to Merrill Lynch, Jon worked in the research department of various
top-tier Wall Street firms. He was a Research Associate for Credit
Suisse First Boston’s Energy Group in 1999. From 1997 to 1999, he
was an Analyst for Schroders covering small capitalization capital
goods companies. From 1996 to 1997, Jon was an Analyst at NatWest
Securities covering small capitalization aerospace & defense and
capital goods companies. From 1995 to 1996, he was an Analyst at
Value Line, Inc. with coverage responsibilities spanning consumer
products to technology, healthcare, and specialty finance. Jon
received an M.B.A. in Finance with honors and distinction from NYU
Stern School of Business in 2000. He graduated from SUNY Binghamton
in 1995, receiving a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Mathematics,
and is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the New York Society of
Security Analysts.
Jon is the proud father of twin sons, and is an avid snowboarder and
hockey player.
DEREK EVANS, PARTNER
Derek
is a managing partner, as well as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for FIC
Capital, Inc. He is responsible for corporate strategy, financial planning and analysis, marketing,
business development and ensuring operational effectiveness. Derek
also actively supports the investment research functions and assists
in managing client relationships.
Prior to joining FIC Capital in 2007, Derek was a Principal at kasina, a
strategy consulting firm serving the asset management sector. At
kasina, he was involved in the management, corporate strategy, and
operations of the company, as well as providing strategic insight
and guidance to senior executives of several high-profile asset
managers. He has served as a speaker and panelist at several
industry conferences, and was often sought by industry publications
for comment on relevant issues.
Having joined kasina only a year after its formation in 1999, Derek had a
major impact in building the start-up venture into a viable and
successful business entity. His latest roles included heading the
overall consulting practice, managing a number of important client
relationships, serving as an author, project manager or Editorial
Board member for numerous research reports, and leading the
company’s employee education and growth initiatives.
In addition to his business endeavors, Derek looks for ways to be
more active in socially responsible initiatives. He is a founder of
the kasina Youth Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that is
dedicated to innovating and improving the education of our children.
He is an active volunteer and contributor to several New York
Community and national programs, including DreamYard, Kids for Tomorrow, the "I Have a Dream" Foundation and the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society.
Prior to joining kasina, Derek worked for an e-Commerce start-up in
the financial services industry, where he developed operational
models and initiated marketing programs. Derek also worked in the
Financial Planning and Analysis department of AlliedSignal (now
Honeywell), where he developed business analysis tools and reporting
solutions for multiple lines of business. Before attending business
school, Derek spent a number of years consulting at ERM, a leading
environmental engineering firm.
Derek graduated with Highest Honors from Colgate University in 1992. He was
a merit-based scholarship recipient at Pennsylvania State University
and NYU’s Stern School of Business, where he received a M.S. (1995)
and M.B.A. (2000), respectively. At Stern, Derek majored in Finance and Information
Technology.
Derek grew up in Massachusetts and the back woods of New Hampshire,
in an environment where pets outnumbered family members. He has
lived in several neighborhoods in New York City over the last 10
years. He enjoys playing almost any sport and often dreams of
plowing through several feet of untouched powder on ski mountains in
the Western US.
TERRENCE EMDE,
PARTNER
Terrence
Emde is a managing partner of FIC Capital, Inc. He has served as
Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer
of FIC Capital (formerly Ferguson Investment Consultants, Inc.)
since 2003. In addition to these duties, he plays an integral role
in corporate strategy, business development, and improving
operational efficiencies. Terrence is actively involved in managing
client relationships and contributes to the development and
implementation of investment strategies that are tailored for each
client. He also assists in the analysis and evaluation of both
equity and fixed income securities.
Prior to joining FIC, Terrence worked as a Securities Analyst at
Swiss American Securities, a member of the Credit Suisse Group,
where he was directly responsible for fundamental stock and industry
analysis in the cable, capital goods, insurance, Internet and metal
and mining sectors. He produced industry and stock reports that were
distributed to the firm’s exclusive client base. Terrence also made
recommendations to the Head of U.S. Trading at Credit Suisse Private
Banking and contributed to the establishment of the company’s Model
Portfolio.
From 1996 to 1997, Terrence was an Analyst at Value Line, Inc. with
coverage responsibility spanning nearly 30 companies in various
industry sectors, including financial services, metal and mining,
computer services, and capital goods.
Terrence received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from SUNY Binghamton in 1995.
He is currently pursuing the Certified Financial Planner
designation.
Terrence is a devoted softball player, and enjoys golfing and
skiing. He is the proud father of a newborn son.
